Many books discuss why you should believe Christianity and the Bible. My book discusses why you should not. Many Christians ignore such books. They choose never in their life to read material critical of their faith. For the weak and fragile Christian, such a choice is wise. For the person courageous enough to follow truth wherever it leads, the choice amounts to voluntary ignorance and intellectual dishonesty.

§

The Bible says God once drowned the entire world. It says God commanded the killing of infants (Ezekiel 9:4-6, 1st Samuel 15:3). God murdered the baby of David and Bathsheba, according to the Bible (2nd Samuel, 12).

If a book said your father ordered infants murdered, would you believe it? And if other people believed it, wouldn’t you try to show them the book was wrong?

There’s plenty of reason to believe the Bible is wrong. Science says the world-wide flood never happened. Errors and contradictions show the Bible isn’t perfect.

Yet Christians refuse to find fault with the Bible. Rather, they insist the Bible is true, and then do their best to defend God (the people God murdered were very, very evil, the times were barbaric, God had his reasons which we can’t understand). Christians would rather believe God really ordered the murder of infants than the Bible is wrong.

There’s a word that describes worshipping something instead of God: idolatry. My book points out the Bible’s many flaws and errors. It’s a great antidote for Biblical idolatry.
